The Business School paid a heavy price for squandered chances in their clash against Ascension who defeated them 3-2 in another fixture of this year’s Digicel Nationwide Schools Football Competition which was played
yesterday, at the Tucville ground.
Played in soggy conditions, Ascension took the lead after three minutes through Oslin Lewis, who chested in a cross from the left wing that floated over the jumping opposition goalkeeper.
Both teams missed several opportunities after that, but it would be Ascension who increased their advantage in similar manner as the first when Annan Profitt delivered a high cross from the right side this time, eluded the goalkeeper stationed on the near post in the 19th minute of play. It was another case of him making a bad judgment and clearly highlighted his weakness to the floated ball.
In search of more goals, Ascension gained a two-goal cushion four minutes later through Anthony Roberts whose cracker screamed past the opposing custodian.
However, Business School responded two minutes later with Quincy Aldridge hitting a firm shot past the Ascension goalkeeper.
The half came with Ascension enjoying a handy 3-1 lead.
On the resumption, Business School continued to waste precious chances with balls being sprayed either over the crossbar or just outside the uprights.
Their urgency seemed to overwhelm Ascension and another goal was scored in the 60th minute when Kevyn Murray rose high over the Ascension backline to hit a bullet-like header from a corner into the back of the nets.
It was now nervous moments fro Ascension as Business School nearly got the equaliser when a rasping drive from the right side slammed on to the right upright and stuck in the mud inches short of the heading over the goal-line.
It was a bit unfortunate for the Brickdam-based line-up that made a late rally, but fell short as the final whistle sounded to hand Ascension a well-deserved victory.
