Popular Supermarket, Price is Right of No 79 Municipal Market and Public Road No 79 Village, Corentyne, Berbice will provide sponsorship for the Combined Upper Corentyne/Skeldon for the Berbice Cricket Board Fundraiser…..”Caricom Championship 2015″.
At a simple ceremony held recently, Vadisha Ragbeer, employee of the Supermarket said that her company is happy to be the official sponsor of the Upper Corentyne/Skeldon team for the
Championship. She added that they are pleased with the work of the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association since it was resuscitated, highlighting the number of cricket competitions that have being played so far. She also mentioned that the members of the board are well respected individuals who have gained the confidence of all in the area. She also commended the work of the BCB despite its limited resources.
Speaking on behalf of the board, Vicky Bharosay, Treasurer of the UCCA and BCB representative, thanked the owner of Price is Right for their continued support to cricket in the Upper Corentyne area. He assured the sponsor that Upper Corentyne will once again be a force to be reckoned with in Berbice and Guyana cricket as it was in the days of Bhim George when the team won national competitions. He added that the sponsorship will cover traveling, playing shirts and refreshments on the day of the game.
In closing, he called on other sponsors to assist clubs/associations in their area and urged the teams to approach sponsors for help. He cautioned though that the cricket clubs must be accountable to build sponsors confidence.
Meanwhile, the senior selectors have named a strong team for the tournament as listed:
Omesh Khemraj (cap), Naeem Yacoob, Viendra Gooniah, Tameshwar Ramoutar, Thameshwar Kumar, Totaram Persaud, Tarick Chaitram, Latchman Roopchand, Junior Blair, Sherwin Murray, Charles France, Devendra Jaggernauth, Davanand Chatterpaul, Parmeshwar Chatterpaul, Davendra Budhoo. Coach is Hubern Evans.
The Caricom Championship will be played at the historic Albion Sports Complex on Sunday July 5, 2015 and will see eight top first division teams in Berbice taking part in a ten over knockout competition with the final of 20 overs to be played under lights for a top prize of $80,000 and trophy. The runner up will receive $40,000 and trophy with the losing finalists $15,000 each. Man of the match in every game will be rewarded. The teams will wear coloured
clothing and white balls will be used. Action begins at 10am sharp with the top Berbice cricketers on show.
Several gate prizes will be up for grabs for the fans as well as a well stocked ANSA MCAL bar and musical entertainment. Games for the young and old will be there. Entrance is $300 for adults, children under 12 free.
