An early morning collision on the Coverden Public Road, East Bank Demerara, has claimed the life of Marlon Forde, called ‘Goaty’ or ‘Bage’, 38, of Lot P Adams Road, Soesdyke. The accident also left six others injured.
Clayton Schwartz of Ice House Road Timehri, was piloting the white Spacio car, HC 4030 in which Forde and a female, Esther Meertins, of Van Diamond Road, Soesdyke, were travelling when the accident occurred.
Sheldon McLennan, the driver of Fielder Wagon, HB 9510, of D’Andrade Street, Newtown, is nursing a broken right leg and lacerations to the right side face while the injuries of the others are unknown. The driver of HC4030 is in police custody assisting with investigations.
The occupants of both cars, except Forde, were rushed to the East Bank Demerara Regional Hospital for medical attention.
Yesterday when Kaieteur News visited Forde’s home his siblings, including his twin sister, Marliss, were shocked by his sudden demise.
The tearful surviving twin said that about 6:00hrs yesterday she received a call about the accident and subsequently rushed to the scene.
Upon arrival there, she saw her brother’s lifeless body slumped in a sitting position between the seats. According to her, the driver had related that after the accident her twin brother claimed that he was ok, and opted to remain behind while the others were rushed to the hospital.
The grieving sibling was appalled at the fact that despite Forde bleeding he was still left behind. She and others opined that Forde’s decision should have been challenged, and maybe he would still be alive.
Kaieteur News understands that Forde and his siblings had left their Adams Road home some time Thursday evening to attend Karaoke in Timehri but then he diverted to another location in Garden of Eden where he continued imbibing alcohol.
Reports stated that Schwartz collected Forde and Meertins from the Garden of Eden location and was making their way home when the accident occurred.
The mother of Forde’s only child was devastated by his passing. Yesterday she was almost speechless. She recalled the man promising to visit his daughter but never showed up.
Sheldon McLennan, speaking with the reporter at his home yesterday, said that he had gone to the airport to drop off a customer and was making his way back to the city when he became involved in the accident.
He recalled picking up two young women whom he described as ‘mysterious’ at the Timehri Docks road and proceeded along his journey. Just before the Thomas Koker in Coverden he noticed a bright light which eventually came into his path.
“I see the bright light and it start coming to me diagonally, so I blow my horn, by time that the car already slammed into me” said McLennan as he clutched his chest.
Marlon Forde who was described to have been a very jovial and loving person; leaves to mourn his only child, mother and five siblings.
This has brought the road fatality for June to seven.
