Squash enthusiasts were treated to an evening of high entertainment when The Digicel Senior National Squash Championships continued on Thursday, with World Number 26 Nicolette Fernandes turning in a 3-0 victory
over exciting Junior Makeda Harding (11/5, 11/2, 11/7). Ashley DeGroot later held off a determined comeback from Larissa Wiltshire to hold on to a 3-2 win over the Junior. Wiltshire recovered from being two games down to challenge her Senior opponent by winning consecutive games of her own. As the match moved into the fifth game the players exchanged match points before DeGroot finally ended the match 13/11.
Ashley Khalil and Akeila Wiltshire ensured there were no easy wins for the Junior athletes competing in the senior competition as they both won in straight sets.
Alwyn Callender notched up his second consecutive win when he defeated Tariq Williams 3-0. There were also straight set wins for Regan Pollard, Peter DeGroot, Nyron Joseph, Jason Ray Khalil, Joe Mekdeci, Deje Dias and Medhi Ramdhani. The quarter finals of the Men’s Group and the Semi finals of the Female’s Group were contested last evening at the Georgetown Club.
