Beverage giant Ansa MCAL under the Carib brand is on board with the Berbice

At a simple ceremony held recently, Berbice Manager Mark Bhikhai commended the initiative by the board to raise its own funds to carry out its mandate. He is happy to hear also that proceeds from this event will go towards a long awaited three day cricket competition for first division teams in the county, a tournament that will surely develop our young and aspiring cricketers.
Speaking on behalf of the board, Angela Haniff, BCB representative, thanked Ansa McAl for their support once more and for recognizing the work of the BCB and its intention to play three day first division cricket after many years. She said that the WICB receives lots of funding from the ICC for cricket development but it seems like that money is only channeled to certain preferred boards and areas. She is calling on the New Minister of Sports to intervene in the current cricket situation in Guyana and bring back normalcy, for all and sundry are affected. Haniff reminded that gathering that ANSA McAl is also the sponsor of The Carib Beer T20 First Division Cricket Competition for teams in Berbice.
The BCB is working to make sure that three day first division cricket returns to Berbice and proceed from this event will go towards that initiative. The board is appealing to all cricket
lovers in Guyana and in the diaspora to come on board with the BCB to further enhance the game in the ancient county. The board is also calling on former Berbice players for assistance. The Caricom Championship will be played at the historic Albion Sports Complex on Sunday July 5, 2015 will see eight top first division teams in Berbice taking part in a ten over knockout competition with the final of 20 overs to be played under lights for a top prize of $80,000 and trophy. The runner up will receive $40,000 and trophy with the losing finalists $15,000 each. Man of the match in every game will be rewarded. The teams will don coloured clothing and white balls will be used. Action begins at 10am sharp with the top Berbice cricketers on show.
Many gate prizes will be up for grabs with a well stocked ANSA McAl bar and musical entertainment present.
Games for the young and old will be there. Entrance is $300 for adults, children under 12 free.
