Amy Grant, known for her singing and swimming ability will be competing today in the Individual
Sprint Triathlon for the first time in her young life, as the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) and its affiliates stage a team and individual triathlon competition as one of the Olympic Day 2015 activities.
Grant will swim for 750m at The National Aquatic Centre, then cycle for 20km and finish with a 5km run in the National Park. She had entered the event last year for the first time but not in the Individual category.
This year however, she is taking on all three disciplines by herself. She was out of the pool for a little over one week due to exams but started back her swim training on Monday for the up and coming July Sprint Meet which will also serve as the Goodwill swim trials for the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association team to the Goodwill championships set for Trinidad and Tobago in August.
All eyes will be on the Bishops’ High School second former to do well so that other young girls and boys can be encouraged to do the same, especially since she is expected to be the youngest athlete in the Individual category.
The event is slated to start at 06:30hrs today at The National Aquatic Centre, Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara.
