The Guyana Defence Force has launched a search for a missing boat captain who disappeared following a boat collision on Wednesday.
The GDF in a statement yesterday said that following a report of a collision involving a vessel of the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard which occurred in the Pomeroon Wednesday afternoon, the GDF immediately launched a search and rescue operation in order to find the missing Pomeroon farmer, Mr. Orton Benjamin.
This GDF-led operation is utilising specialist equipment and the services of divers.
The GDF said that it is in contact with the Benjamin family and will provide them with all necessary assistance during this difficult period.
Meanwhile Chief of Staff, Brigadier Mark Phillips has ordered an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident involving the GDF vessel and Benjamin’s boat.
The Guyana Defence Force said it deeply regrets the unfortunate incident and will remain engaged in the search for Benjamin.
