Dear Editor,
Congratulations to the many persons who are making the effort to clean up New Amsterdam.
While it is a good thing to have the place weeded and the drains cleaned and litter picked up I wish to point out some other areas that need some immediate attention.
On entering Pope Street from Water side [Strand], the street that has the Grace Temple Church there is an abundance of garbage lining the parapet on the left as you turn in, very unsightly, I do wish that the Town Council tractor and trailer can clean up this mess lying there.
Further down, almost at the side of the church on the same left builders waste removed from an old fence as a new fence was built remains lying in the concrete drain and almost covered with overgrowth, I hope the council can deal with this as well.
Then there are derelict vehicles left on road shoulders for ages, some now almost covered with over-grown bushes leaving only the central part of the road available to users, these abandoned vehicles need to be removed to the dump site by the Town Council. This is more noticeable from the Republic road side near to a welding shop.
The back dam trench [ Republic road trench] has been dug, it looks clean except for the floating bottles that become the eye sore.
I hope some action will be taken soon if the town is to re-capture its former glory.
