Three 15-year-old Onderneeming, Sand Pit, teenagers are reportedly pregnant and have since dropped out of school. One of the three former Johanna Cecilia Secondary School students has recently delivered a baby, while her two other friends are in waiting.
According to reports from the area, the former students are friends and attended a Secondary School on the Essequibo Coast. There have been calls for a probe into the alarming figures of teenage pregnancies in that area and in the wider Region.
A recent report indicated that one of the pregnant teenagers attempted to commit suicide this past weekend by stabbing herself with a knife.
She was subdued and taken to the Suddie Public Hospital before being released back into her mother’s care.
The report added that the teenager’s father was discovered hanging in a house in the area several months ago.
The report of the pregnant teens has triggered concerns and calls for the intervention of the relevant authorities to launch an immediate investigation. People also want the authorities to orchestrate a plan in order to get the students back into schools after they would have delivered. Onderneeming is said to be a depressed community with people of all backgrounds from various communities in the Region who have relocated to the area.
