A Lima Sands miner is dead after a mining pit in which he was apparently working, caved in pinning him
down in the process.
James Goddett, 51, of Lima Sands, Essequibo Coast, lost his life after he sustained severe injuries when he was pinned beneath tons of earth some time on Sunday. The accident occurred at a mining operation located at Barama in the North West District.
One of Goddett’s brothers, Eon Calvan, who said that he was not properly informed about his brother’s demise, however indicated that he was in church on Sunday when he received the horrible news.
According to the man, some time around10:30 hours he got the message indicating that the pit in which his brother was working, had caved in on him.
Goddett immediately said that he mobilized someone to travel to the area to transport his brother’s body.
