A mixed twelve-member jury has been selected before Justice Navindra Singh at the High Court in Georgetown to oversee the murder trial of Andrew Ketwaroo.
Ketwaroo is indicted for the murder of his reputed wife, Radica Ramjattan. The incident is said to have occurred on August 23, 2011 at the couple’s Meten- Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara residence. The accused pleaded not guilty to the indictment which was read to him in open court, yesterday.
He is being represented by Attorney- at- Law, Dexter Todd.
Attorneys- at-Law, Judith Gildharie-Mursalin and Narissa Leander will be prosecuting on behalf of the State. Reports are that, the handyman and father of four from Sophia, was consuming alcohol shortly before murdering his wife.
Relatives of the victim found the body of 42-year-old Radica Ramjattan lying in the Tarla Dam, Meten-Meer-Zorg house. Ramjattan’s relatives all claimed that she was subjected to numerous beatings at the hands of her partner.
A sister of the victim had related that the suspect was hugging the body when she and others arrived at the scene.
The woman reported that she and a male resident entered the house and she saw Radica lying face down and motionless in a pool of blood.
She said that ‘Andrew’ was lying near Radica and hugging her. According to the sister, a long, bloodstained knife was nearby. However, Ketwaroo has repeatedly denied killing the woman. His trial is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am today.
