The Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) successfully hosted a
GALA in observance of Olympic Day at the National Aquatic Centre Sunday.
The event which was sponsored by the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) attracted some 80 participants including current national swimmers, parents and officials of GASA.
Contestants took part in 15 events which contained Tandem Butterfly and Tandem Breaststroke; the day’s activities concluded with a mini cultural show.
Head of GASA Ivan Persaud said the event was a huge success adding that its main aim was to aid in the development of the sport.
He stated that their next swim meet will be held on July 10-12 and it will be used to select Guyana’s Goodwill Games team-the Goodwill championship is set for Trinidad and Tobago
from August 14-16.
Persaud pointed out that for the first time in 23 years Guyana will be represented by 40 athletes at the games. “We will participate in the relays this time around so we have an excellent chance to better out previous showings,” he said.
He thanked the GOA, clubs and parents for their input.
