The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club much anticipated Region 6 Say No to Drugs/Suicide and Say Yes to
Education/Sports Campaign for Primary and Secondary Schools would be launched on Friday 26th June with a massive march and rally. The campaign which would target all seventeen Secondary Schools in Region 6 along with Primary Schools, Technical Institutes and Berbice Sports Organisations seeks to get youths to reject Satan and his ways of drugs and suicide and getting them to stay in schools to obtain an educational background. The campaign would also encourage youths to get involved in sports as an alternative to a life on the road.
Plans for the successful hosting of the official launch were boosted when the Guyana Beverage Company of Diamond, East Bank, Demerara and Southland International of Brickdam, Georgetown handed over a large donation of water and soft drinks to the cricket teams of the RHTYSC, who are the organizers. The Guyana Beverage Company provided the soft drinks while Southland International contributed the water.
Secretary/CEO of the RHTYSC Hilbert Foster in receiving the donations from the two companies stated that the items would be used to provide refreshments to the students after the march. He praised both companies for investing in the welfare of youths and specially mentioned Guyana Beverage Company General Manager Robert Selman and Southland International CEO Irzad Zamal. Selman expressed his delight at once again being able to work along with the RHTYSC, an organization he described as a role model, while Zamal stated that his company was happy with the aims of the anti-drugs programme.
Under the programme which is being sponsored by the Edward B. Beharry Co. Ltd, schools would receive banners and posters for every classroom and copies of a 40 page youth information booklet. The programme would also include the hosting of several educational and sports competition for the schools. The Say No to Drugs/Suicide and Yes to Education/Sports Campaign is being organized by the Farfan and Mendes Under 15, Bakewell Under 17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under 19 and Intermediate, Gizmos and Gadgets Under 21 and First Division and Metro Females Cricket teams of the RHTYSC.
