Reginald Manbodh, 67, of 464 Kiskadee Drive, South Ruimveldt, was the victim of a broad daylight robbery for the second time just outside his home. He was shot three times when two armed bandits were attempting to relieve him of his bag of money. The incident occurred about12:35hrs, yesterday.
Kaieteur News understands that Manbodh had just made his way home from a city bank when he was attacked.
According to reports, just as the man reached his home, while still in his motor vehicle he was attacked and held at gunpoint by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun and who had driven up on a CG motor cycle.
The injured Manbodh was picked up by two kind hearted neighbours, who rushed him to the A&E Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital. One of the neighbours who was in a state of shock, was seen yesterday covered in blood because she clutched the profusely bleeding Manbodh into the A&E unit.
She said that immediately after she had heard gunshots rang out, she ventured outside where she saw Manbodh with the gunshot wounds. Like a good-Samaritan the woman reportedly stripped her shirt off, using it to apply pressure to the man’s wounds before rushing him to the GPHC with the help of another neighbour.
The man’s wife was yesterday shaken outside the hospital. She recalled hearing gunshots. Upon peeping out she saw her husband fighting with the “young” bandits. Mr. Manbodh had put up a good fight to maintain possession of his bag which contained $2million. He had just withdrawn the money from Scotia Bank.
Determined to successfully execute the mission, one of the men then shot Manbodh while shouting, “Give me the f#@$# thing”. After receiving the third shot the men finally gained possession of the money bag and made good their escape. He was shot to his arms and left foot.
Kaieteur News understands that this is the second time that the man was robbed in such a manner. Investigations are in progress.
