Twenty-six year-old murder accused Jermaine Otto was yesterday morning stabbed during a surprise
attack by two fellow inmates in the Camp Street Prison. The man, who received a single stab to his abdomen, was rescued by personnel at the facility, who reportedly rushed to his aid.
Kaieteur News understands that Otto was on his way out of his area of confinement when he was attacked by two men who emerged from the prison’s gym.
The attackers’ names were given as John Caesar and Alonzo (only name given). It is unknown what might have led to the attack.
According to reports, Otto was preparing to attend a Court hearing in relation to the murder charge he is currently facing.
He was treated at the Prison’s Medical Centre. The extent of his injury is unknown.
Otto was remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts in August 2014. Otto, along with Travis McDougall, is accused of killing 43-year-old Pike Street, Georgetown businessman, Ashok Raghu, during the course of a robbery.
