The speculations were high over the last few days, regarding President David Granger’s recent trip to the
USA. With little information made available to the public on the purpose of the trip, it was rumored that the excursion was intended for him to make an appearance at the Victory Parade held in New York. There were even rumours about Granger travelling for medical reasons.
But Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, at a press conference, yesterday, confirmed that the Head of State did not visit the USA for medical reasons but emphasized that it was a “private” trip.
He said that as all Presidents do, from time to time, they have to take some time out to take care of “personal issues for matters of the State can certainly consume you.”
The politician added, “For example, you might decide to have a change in your wardrobe and buy some fresh stuff. So a President is no different from any other individual but he did not go to the USA on any medical matter.”
Harmon went further to set the record straight on whether or not it was taxpayers who had to foot the bill for himself and two other ministers on the USA trip to the Victory Parade.
He said, “Everything was paid for by the organizers of the event, lock stock and barrel. That is to say airline tickets, transportation and accommodation.”
The Minister emphasized, “Not a cent from the public purse was spent on that visit. (Kiana Wilburg)
