Following their qualification to Round 3 of CONCACAF qualifying for the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018, Head Coach of St. Vincent & the Grenadines’ Vincy Heat, Cornelius Huggins believes that their qualification is a
golden opportunity for his young players to showcase their talent to the world.
St. Vincent drew with Guyana’s Golden Jaguars in both their home and away two-legged series; at home the game ended 2-2 with Vincy Heat coming back twice to tie the game and in Guyana on Sunday night last the match ended 4-4.
This time, it was the Golden Jaguars who had to claw back on each occasion to draw the game. The visitors advanced on the away goal rule to end Guyana’s run after just two matches.
Huggins believes that their qualification presents a golden opportunity for the young players to market themselves on the bigger stage.
Captain Dorren Hamlet thanked Almighty God for designing their passage into the next round while remarking that it is a good opportunity for them since over the years they have got this far but stumbled.
“This is a good achievement for us going on to the next round so as the coach said we can market our younger players.”
With just three overseas based players in their squad for their Round 2 matches, Huggins supported the notion that they would have to further strengthen by including more players from the Diaspora.
“We will have to send out in the Diaspora for guys who are interested to come and try out. As you know sometimes when you bring in the foreign players they need time to adjust to the climate.”
