National Basketball Coach, Darcel Harris (left, front row) joins other team management and the National Male Basketball Team yesterday morning as they depart the Windjammer International Hotel for Tortola, BVI to compete in the Caribbean Championships.
British Virgin Islands, where they will compete in the 2015 Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Men’s Championships scheduled for this week.
The Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) had named the senior national male team earlier this week. The team will play Antigua and Barbuda tomorrow. The other three teams in Guyana’s group are Bahamas, Bermuda and Suriname.
As part of preparation for the Caribbean Championship, Guyana defeated Bermuda 3-0 in an Invitational Three-game Series in March and lost a Challenge Series 1-2 in Suriname. Guyana would hope to replicate the winning performances in Tortola.
The national federation stated that Guyana is seeking to improve on its fifth place at the 2014 CBC Championships, where the Guyanese finished ahead of Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The national senior team include: Guard/forward: Akeem Kanhai (Captain); Point Guards: Dave Causway, Travis Burnett, Jason Squires; Shooting Guards: Shelroy Thomas, US-based Kerron McKenzie, Chris Williams and Ryan Stephney; Forwards: Jermaine Slater, Ryan Gullen, Europe-based, Gordon James and Rudy James.
