Elton ‘The Bully’ Dharry continued his upward climb to world champion status

when he disposed of American, Miguel Robles at the Amazura Concert Hall, Queens, New York, USA last Friday night. It was another convincing win for Dharry who, four months ago had defeated Nicaraguan, Jose Rios, for the IBF Inter Continental Bantamweight title at the L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium, Philipsburg, Sint Maarten.
The scheduled 8 rounder was halted by referee, Eddie Claudio, at 2:46 of round 3 after ‘The Bully’ had unleashed a wicked volley to Robles’ body and head that sent him reeling into the ropes. Kaieteur Sport attempted to speak with Dharry but he was apparently tired after the bout and was resting. However, during a pre-fight discussion he had intimated that his handlers were working assiduously to get him in the top ten ratings and move on to a world title fight. He had improved his chances when he defeated Jose Rios.
Dharry had almost secured his big break when he was slated to oppose Leo Santa Cruz in a rematch on the Floyd Mayweather/Pacquiao under card but that fight fell through at the last minute leaving him disappointed. Leo Santa Cruz had won their first encounter in November 2007 and Dharry, peeved at that decision, was anxious to prove that he was the better man.
Dharry is scheduled to continue his training sessions at the famed Gleason’s Gym, Brooklyn NY shortly and will still nurture thoughts of fighting for the world title soon.
That victory has now improved his record to 19 wins from 23 fights to date. Twelve of them were by the knockout route while he has suffered 5 losses and drew one of his bouts. Dharry also extended his winning streak to 14 fights, 10 of them finishing inside the distance. The last time he tasted defeat was in September 2009 when he surrendered a lopsided points verdict to American, Isander Beauchamp.
Among Dharry’s most convincing victories were a first round technical knockout over Leshaun Blair in a scheduled 6 rounds encounter in Washington USA, a decision victory over Nicaraguan, Jose Rios, for the IBF Inter Continental Bantamweight title and a first round stoppage of American Desi Williams. With this victory, Dharry’s knockout ratio has since improved to 48 percent.
