Watchdog body, Transparency Institute Guyana Inc. (TIGI), has a new Board of Directors for the year 2015-2016 with University Lecturer, Calvin Bernard, elected President.
According to TIGI, it held its Annual General Meeting on Monday.
The other persons elected were Ayana McCalman (First Vice President); Aruna Budhram (Second Vice President); Dhanmattie Sohai (Secretary) with the Directors being Sara Bharrat, Christopher Ram, Harri Persaud Beharry, Troy Thomas and Compton Meerabux.
Ramesh Seebarran will serve as Treasurer to the institution.
“This is a diverse group of individuals who have all excelled in their respective fields and who share a mutual interest in eradicating corruption,” TIGI said. “TIGI also wishes to express its sincerest gratitude to past directors Gino Persaud, Esther McIntosh, Arif Bulkan and George Fraser for their continuous efforts and commitment to the organization’s mission.”
The body has been vocal, arguing for transparency, accountability and integrity at all levels of society, by increasing citizens’ awareness of ethical standards and practices in doing business and speaking about the real cost of corruption.
“The organization’s vision is a country in which the activities of Government, businesses, non-governmental organizations and citizens are conducted in an open, fair and just manner.
TIGI continues to work on building a Guyana that is relatively free of corruption, so that all citizens can derive the full benefits of the country’s resources.”
