Auchlyne, Alness record victories
Auchlyne and Alness registered victories when the 18th Annual Ministry of Education,
Department of Sport Al Sport and Tour Promotion primary schools windball tournament continued recently with action in the Central Corentyne zone.
Playing at Bush Lot Farm ground in the boys’ category, Auchlyne overcame Wellington by six wickets. Batting first, Wellington managed 39-4 in five overs, while Auchlyne replied with 40-4. Alness beat Auchlyne by five wickets. Auchlyne batted first and scored 57-8. Ezikel Persaud made 15 and Tamesh Persaud 14. Alness responded with 60-5. Devendra Sahadeo and Saddique Thomas claimed two scalps each.
In the girls’ division, No. 36 got the better of Auchlyne by nine wickets. Auchlyne took first strike and made 35-0. Vanita Seeram and Sohanna Sanichar got 13 and 10 respectively. Alness replied with 36-1. No. 36 rebounded to thump Auchlyne by three runs. No. 36 posted 36-1 taking first knock while Auchlyne were restricted for 33-1 in response.
Speaking before the start of play, Sports Officer Alistair Munroe spoke about the importance of education and reminded that students must attend school on a regular basis in order to participate in the programme. He also thanked the teachers for their support.
