Dear Editor,
One of the APNU-AFC coalition banners boldly proclaimed, “It is time for Righteousness”.  I strongly supported that call and I believed God has changed the direction of Guyana.  As Christian labourers, we’ve had to deal with street corner parties on Sundays, lots of un-churched people and children, non-attendance to Sunday School, bible clubs, prayer meetings, etc.
How can Guyana chose to forget that these institutions were and continue to be the fabric of our nation.  We’ve also seen the lack of involvement and maturity with the simplest community-related activism.  A simple clean-up campaign in our communities brought animosity and stress.  In Friendship, East Bank Demerara, we are grateful for what is being done about the river defences, however how can the contractor hire four or more members from one family for various jobs?
These are the issues that bring constant dissension and disunity.  I call on every community leader and resident to be bold and righteous in this new Guyana.  We must continuously clean our yards, drains and community.
We must get back to spiritual values which mean attending church and sending our children to Sunday School.  We must support righteous leaders, stay active in your communities, walk around and get to know everyone living in the community.  Guyana will never survive without righteous and God-fearing people.
