Smythfield Rockers destroyed opponents Ithaca Hardliners to make a strong claim for a semi final berth when play continued in the NPG Inter Club Basketball competitions for teams in Berbice.
The team from New Amsterdam made sure that their travel was not in vain as they first softened then hammered the hapless Hardliners 73-32 in a once sided contest played last Sunday at the Ithaca basketball Court, West bank Berbice.
Rockers needing badly to win the game were well prepared for battle and they steadied themselves early and completely overran their opponents from the opening whistle and they took an early lead as they never looked back to end the first quarter 24-8. It was more of the same beating in the second segment and the Rockers sailed away to ended the first half 32-16.
The trashing continued with more intensity in the third segment with the Rockers soaring away for a 50- 26 lead.
The final segment saw the Rockers pouring in 23 points to their opponents merge six as the mauling continued for the 73- 32 blowout.
The Rockers assault was led by Jamal Felix with 18 points including two from down town, Michael Bowen 17 and Neil Wills 16.
The main contributors for Ithaca Hardliners were Errol Amsterdam 13, Phillip Edwards 12 and Kester Sinclair 6.
