Dear Editor,
Restructuring is par for the course with every new government as they want to ensure that key managers are aligned with their vision and goals. Who to keep and who to let go becomes the million dollar question. I am in agreement with some of the names being bantered about for replacement but would like to urge the government to retain the GRA Boss.
The Guyana Revenue Authority has experienced steady leadership under Khurshid Sattaur and from all public reports the department has always met revenue collection targets. It would therefore be unfortunate if the new government replaced this gentleman amidst their restructuring of departmental heads.
Mr Sattaur is a good and decent man who only wants to be left alone to do his job. He should not be judged too harshly for the email-gate between him and former President Jagdeo.
The ex president used the power of the government to intimidate and bully Mr Sattaur into compliance and the full blame should be placed at Jagdeo’s feet.
Please do not throw out the baby with the bath water, President Granger. Give Khurshid Sattaur a chance to prove he is a loyal public servant.
Berkeley Van Bowen
