Police have captured the prime suspect in the shooting death of a Corentyne farm labourer and the wounding of another.
Police, acting on information, moved in on an Eversham Corentyne home early yesterday, where they nabbed the suspect, identified as Clifton Sakawat called “Vishal,” of Clifton, Port Mourant.
He was wanted for the shooting death of Sasenarine Baljit, 40, called “Frying Pan” of Clifton Settlement, Port Mourant, Corentyne, whose decomposed body was found last Friday in a trench in the Tain Backdam, Corentyne.
He was also wanted for wounding Navendra Permaul, 39, of Port Mourant, Corentyne, Berbice during the same shooting spree.
The suspect’s brother in law was also detained.
Baljit’s bullet-riddled body was found on Friday at Tain Settlement, Corentyne, two days after he was believed to have escaped an attack on a camp by the gun-toting man.
A post mortem examination conducted by Government Pathologist Dr. Vivikanand Brijmohan revealed that Baljit died from shock and haemorrhage due to gunshot injuries. The body bore about seven shotgun injuries to the back.
