GSA/Digicel Woodpecker Products Junior National Squash C/Ship
The remaining matches in the Woodpecker Products Junior National Squash Championships will take
place today from 10:00 hrs at the Georgetown Club, where several exciting matches will determine the winners of each age category. The tournament, which was initially supposed to have been concluded last Sunday, was postponed due to flooding in the city, but is finally set to reach its climax with several key encounters and exciting matches expected to bring down the curtain on the competition hosted by the Guyana Squash Association in collaboration with its corporate sponsor Digicel.
In what is expected to be the feature final match, two of the most experienced juniors in the Wiltshire sisters- Akeila and Larissa, will battle for top honors. The shot selection and composure of the older Akeila may give her a competitive edge. However with notable agility and athleticism the younger Larissa should not be rated as an underdog. Both unbeaten during this tournament, the match will be an important one as the athletes prepare for next month’s Junior Caribbean Amateur Squash Association (CASA) tournament.
The youngest Wiltshire- Shomari, will aim to continue his unbeaten run to take both the Under 13 and Under 15 categories. Nyron Joseph is set to play Ben Mekdeci in what is also expected to be a high octane encounter between two of the more rounded juniors currently on the local circuit, in a decisive under-17 game. Under 13 girls favorite Makeda Harding is set to play Abosaide Cadogan and Maya Collins, while the improving Rebecca Low plays her last game against Sarah Lewis. Brothers Anthony and Daniel Islam are also expected to produce an exciting match as the two developing players, who have shown impressive fight in their losses, meet to
salvage some pride.
