The Guyana National Swimming Association (GNSA) is calling on business owners to be more responsible not only to their country but also to the environment.
In efforts to maintain the on-going clean-up campaign in and around Georgetown the GNSA in collaboration with the ‘Let’s Keep Georgetown clean’ yesterday took to the streets with massive man power to “Clean-up the city”.
The group took their positions as early as 6:00 hrs. The effort was quite challenging because of the “lack of initiative” by business owners who opted to weld and bolt down covers over the drains.
One of the members of the GNSA said, “Our main problem with getting this city cleaned is the drain covers being welded and bolted down by the business owners… Those barriers over the drains are preventing it from being cleaned; we spent almost two hours to clean the drains around the Nice Restaurant because of some of the covers over the drains cannot be removed”.
“We are calling on those business owners to be more responsible and think about the city… We are hoping that the Mayor would look into this matter as soon as possible and that the businesses would use their initiatives to remove the weldings so that the drains in our city can be cleaned”.
The group comprised of persons of all ages and from all parts of Guyana, they wished to commend everyone from their continuous effort to restore ‘Guyana to its former glory as the Garden city’.
