With just three days away from their opening game in Round 2 of the CONCACAF/FIFA World Cup Russia 2018, the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has released their 21-man squad that will travel to the Caribbean
Island tomorrow for their Wednesday afternoon encounter at the Arnos Vale Playing Field.
Captain Christopher Nurse will once again lead the Golden Jaguars and will no doubt be eager to get past this first hurdle successfully against the ‘Vincy Heat’, a side that Guyana lost to in their last encounter.
Head Coach Jamaal Shabazz had stated that the competition among the players had been very competitive indicating that there were two players battling for every position. Some 38 players were called to trails.
Shabazz, on his third stint at the helm of the game in Guyana (2005-2009, 2011-2012) stated that that each player showed commitment and worked hard for the right to be selected.
Midfielder Clive Nobrega, who had picked up a red card in Guyana’s 1-0 defeat to Suriname in a May friendly in Paramaribo, will miss the first leg of the qualifiers. The second leg is set for next Sunday at the Providence Stadium from 19:00hrs.
