The Guyana Draughts Association (GDA) would be hosting an Independence Inter Schools Draughts competition for Secondary Schools in the City tomorrow. Matches will take place at the North Ruimveldt Multilateral School, Mandela Avenue.
Registration begins at 09:30hrs with action commencing at 10:00hrs. Twenty-three (23) Schools have been invited by the association and are all anticipated to participate. Ministry of Education officials, Mr Olato Sam and Ms Desiree Wyles – Ogle have both given approval for this competition. Draughts is a mind game which enhances the thinking ability.
GDA President Mr. Jiaram said that the association is working towards getting every Secondary School involved in the game. Trophies and Certificates would be awarded to the top four schools, while certificates of participation would be given to all participating schools. A&R Jiawanram Printery would sponsor the certificates while other companies have pledged their support towards this initiative. GDA Coordinator Mr Paul D’Anjou is the leading organizer.
