Minister of Education with responsibility for Sports, Rupert Roopnarine, was noticeably absent but several other dignitaries and sports officials graced the National Cultural Centre when Max Massiah hosted a seminar in
commemoration of the first anniversary of Maximum Sports, Strength and Combat, at the National Cultural Centre last Wednesday evening.
Those in attendance included President of the Guyana Olympic Association, K A Juman Yassin, Mayor Hamilton Greene, Public Relations Consultant, Christopher ‘Kit’ Nascimiento and his wife Gem, representatives of the sponsors including Fly Jamaica Airlines and A Ally & Sons among others.
Mayor Greene congratulated the organizers even as he acknowledged the contribution of the programme towards sports development. He also lauded the efforts of Massiah and urged him to continue agitating for betterment in sports. Mr. Yassin was also impressed by the presentations of several martial arts practitioners. He felt that the programme was well organized and urged Mr. Massiah to continue in the same vein towards sports development.
Ms Creavalle engaged the audience in discussions that chronicled her past achievements which included a three-time Miss International Bodybuilding Champion, former Miss World,
Ms Extravaganza, a top-rated Miss Olympia contender, an author, personal trainer and chef advisor.
She spoke on the importance of balanced diets, the intricacies of attaining a high level of fitness, exercise, diet, low-fat recipes, weight gain/loss and more. She also accentuated her presentation with a practical demonstration of her famous ABC methodology of attaining optimum fitness. She beseeched the audience to be a part of this exercise and it was indeed refreshing to note the widespread involvement of the attendees.
Several practitioners also engaged in delightful demonstrations on martial arts self-defense, drama and other presentations by notable characters including local comedian, Chow Pow, who teamed up with Massiah to break the sequence of martial arts presentations with a bit of comedy.
Other features were done by local crossfit champion, Alicia Fortune, who delighted the audience with her guest posing. Martial arts demonstrations from practitioners out of the Jaguar School of Combat and a Kata by 7 years old orange belt practitioner, Mekhl Ritchie.
The audience was also taken through the a video presentation of excerpts of Maximum Sports, Strength and Combat over the preceding year, one of the features being the fastest knockout in international boxing, a two seconds punch that finished the fight even before it started.
Consequently, the spectators were serenaded by Massiah (on the saxophone), Herbie Marshall (on the electric guitar) and Ras George (on the Congo drums). Shortly after the end of her presentation, several members of the audience complimented Ms Creavalle on her sterling presentation and posed questions for clarification.
They all felt it was splendid interaction which culminated with Ms Creavalle displaying and distributing some of her health products. Maximum Sports, Strength and Combat is a weekly programme, aired on NCN’s Channel 11 and 15 on Saturdays from 16:30-17:30 hrs. The producer is Max Massiah.
