Intra Squad game in honour of two founding fathers set for Leonora Football field
All the hard work done in training sessions will be tested today when the Golden Jaguars engage in an intra squad match at the Leonora Football Field to select Guyana’s squad for next week’s FIFA World Cup
Russia 2018 Qualifying competition.
Guyana, drawn in Round 2 of the CONCACAF leg of qualifying would play their first game of the home and away tie against St. Vincent & the Grenadines next Wednesday (June 10) at the Arnos Vale Playing Field in that Island with the return game set for the Guyana National Stadium on Sunday June 14 from19:00hrs.
Today’s match, which kicks off at 15:30hrs, would be played in honour of two of Guyana’s founding Fathers, with the respective teams named the Burnham X1 and the Jagan X1.
All the players have been hard at work over the past two weeks and will be in contention for spots on the 18-man squad that will travel to St. Vincent, while at home, 23 players would be on the roster.
The Technical staff led by Head Coach Jamaal Shabazz with assistance from Wayne ‘Wiggy’ Dover would have their work cut out in selecting the squad which will see the likes Christopher Nurse, Trayon Bobb, Pernel Schultz, Marcel Barrington, Matthew Briggs, Neil Danns, Sheldon Holder, Kevin Beaton, Emery Welshman, Sam Cox, Ricky Shakes, Vurlon Mills, Kanata Manning, Eon Alleyne, Brandon Beresford, Daniel Wilson, Daniel Whyte, Walter Moore, Adrian Butters, Colin Nelson, King Solomon Austin, Kris Comacho, Jamaal Smith Akel Clarke, Derrick Carter, Anthony Whyte and Matthew Allick all staking a claim for a spot.
