As the Guyana Football Federation Normalisation Committee continues to pull out all the stops in ensuring
that the Golden Jaguars present a formidable line up for its World Cup Qualifying campaign for Russia 2018, exciting 19 year-old 6’2″ forward Marcel Barrington will be making a bid to be in the final squad.
Competing for Leicester City Football Club in the English Premier League, Barrington, whose grandmother, Brenette Barrington, who hails from Queenstown in the City, said he is excited to be given the opportunity to try out with the Golden Jaguars and to be able to represent the country of his grandmother.
“Obviously it’s a great opportunity and I would like to play for the Golden Jaguars. Being called wqup is a fantastic achievement for myself and I’ll like to bring as much as I can to the team, pace strength playing up front as the target man doing my best.”
Barrington acknowledged that trying to play for England is a hard thing given the amount of players there and the level of talent available.
“But I’ve taken this opportunity with both hands and said thank you and I’ll just do my best.”
Commenting on his experience to date, Barrington said that it has been going well as he strives to know the players better and to get a better understanding of playing in this setting.
“It’s not the same like playing back home in England, it’s a different style to how that team will play to this team. So now I have a bit of understanding with the team and good bonding with the players. I feel when we go into the game we’ll have a good understanding of each other and good working partnership with each other.”
Barrington informed that this is his second visit to Guyana having been here when he was much younger. (Franklin Wilson)
