At 15:49 hrs yesterday, following sounds of an explosion aback of Sophia, there was a disruption in the supply of electricity to the Demerara Berbice Grids. Emergency crews are currently investigating the transmission lines aback of Sophia in an effort to identify the cause of the outage.
While the investigation continues, Guyana Power and Light was able to restore electricity to Central Georgetown at 16:05 hrs. The restoration continued into all other affected areas in Demerara and Berbice.
