Dear Editor,
It is a dawn of a New Era. I’m so proud of where we’ve reached as One People, One Nation, One Destiny. I can now breathe a fresh breath of air. However, the issue of race has come to the front burner again.
There are days that go by when I wonder what our ancestors must be saying. They toiled this earth to make this place their home but they are a few among us who are still trying to divide us.
The now opposition party has started it by way of a former President’s remarks and thus causing other persons to now play the race game. Let’s not be fooled by such statements and remarks that the now opposing party and its party candidates are making.
We must first recognise that we were all born and bred here on this land and the doctors or nurses that delivered us could have been either an East Indian, an African, a Chinese, an Amerindian, a European or a Portugese. Or maybe we were fortunate to choose the race of the doctors or nurses that attended to us to administer medical treatments!
To go even deeper, let us examine it from an Education point of view. We were not allowed to choose what race of teacher taught us and brought out the best in us to make us stand proud as men and women of good social standing. I can name quite a few members of the now opposition party, who are now choosing to take part in the race game, who were taught by another race.
To go on further, let’s examine the aspect of blood donors. When there’s an accident and the patient is in urgent need of blood, do we get to choose what race the blood should come from? No! All we need at that point is to do whatever is necessary to save that life.
Think of the above mentioned points and make your own assessment about the Race Card Issue. Should it be played?
I can go on and on and on but I shall stop here for now.
My dear fellow Guyanese, please think carefully before you condemn one another. I therefore issue a wake-up call to everyone, to open your eyes and see the now opposition party’s views on politics. It may just be “politricks”. Let’s all remember that despite the colour of our skin, the blood running through our veins will always be one standard colour, “Red”.
Let’s join hands and live as One People, One Nation with One Destiny!
