The Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) National Long Course Championships got off to a flying start on Saturday with Brittany Van Lange, Amy Grant, Omar Adams, Kenita Mahaica and Aleka Persaud capturing Gold in the Blue Ribbon Stakes.
It was nice to see Brittany Van Lange in the pool after a long layoff, copping Golds in the Girls 18 and over in the 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly, 200m IM and 200m Breaststroke.
Amy Grant captured Golds in the Girls 13-14 Group, retaining her title as Sprint Queen in the 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly and 200m IM, while Kenita Mahaica won the Girls 13-14 100m Backstroke.
Omar Adams took Golds in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly, defeating Hannibal Gaskin to claim the coveted title of King of Sprints.
Aleka Persaud swimming in the Girls 8 and under won the 50m Freestyle, 50m Butterfly and 200m IM.
Saturday events also saw Paul Mahaica winning the 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly.
Leon Seaton took Golds in the Boys 9-10 Group in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly while Raekwon Noel captured the 200m IM in the same age group. Lian Winter claimed the 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly in the Girls 9-10 category.
Jadyn George swimming in the Girls 11-12 category won the 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly while Sekhel Tzedeq competing in the said age group captured the 50m Freestyle and 100m Backstroke.
Onika George, battling in the Girls 15-17 category, took the top podium spot in the 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly, while Satyanand Ramlagan won the Boys 15-17 200m Breaststroke.
Sam Clarke carted off the 200m Breaststroke in the Boys 13-14 category while Antonio Hussein claimed the 200m IM, Nathan Hacket the 100m Backstroke and Daniel Scott the 50m Butterfly.
The day concluded with the Boys 18 and Over as Joseph Seguina captured the 50m Butterfly. This age group also saw Andrew Fowler taking Gold in the 50m Freestyle; coach Mario King took the 200m Breaststroke. The championships conclude today.
