The Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GBBFF) yesterday launched the rebranded ‘Supligen Mr. Guyana’ Senior National Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships scheduled for July 18 at the Park View Hotel and Lounge, East Bank Demerara.
President of the GBBFF, Keavon Bess informed that the federation and the Supligen brand that is distributed by Beepat’s have established a “cordial relationship”. “It goes without saying that Supligen supports sports in Guyana,” Bess said.
Bess disclosed that the top three athletes in each category will be rewarded, highlighting that the overall champion will pocket $100,000, a trophy and a supplement hamper. In addition, Fitness Express will fully sponsor the winner to the Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Games.
He said that the winners of the Men’s Physique, Ms. Bikini and the Ms. Body Fitness categories will take home $50,000 each along with trophies and supplement hampers. According to Bess, the prize money increases with additional sponsorship.
Supligen’s Brand Manager, Treion D’Anjou expressed his pleasure in being associated with the competition. “Supligen is pleased to be associated with this competition. We believe in health and fitness and we hope that other companies follow in our footsteps” he said.
Organising Secretary of the federation, Videsh Sookram told an audience of bodybuilders and other stakeholders that the competition this year will be the best in the last decade. He said that two-time Mr. Guyana, Kerwin Clarke will be pushed to the limit.
Sookram believes that musclemen like the reigning Flex Night champion, Godfrey Stoby and last year’s Novices champion, Sylvester Andrews and the likes of Clint Duke, Marlon Bennett, Alex Hamilton and three-time CAC gold medalist, Devon Davis, will stretch Clarke.
The GBBFF Organising Secretary disclosed that the Men’s Physique category will be contested among the senior men for the first time and as is customary, the Ms. Bikini, and the Ms. Body Fitness segments will also be included.
To add some international muscle to the event, Bess informed that 16-time CAC Welterweight Champion, Hostin ‘Biscuit’ Worrel, will be making his to Guyana for the competition as ‘Guest Poser’. The competition starts at 7pm and admission is listed at $1500.
