Drug bust lands man before court

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded a Land Surveyor to prison yesterday on a drug trafficking charge.
Graham Telford, 51, of 65 Cross Street, Werk-en-Rust pleaded not guilty to both charges after they were read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The first charge alleged that at Cross Street, yesterday, he had 34 grammes of cocaine in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The second charge alleged that on the day and at the same location, he had 840 grammes of cannabis in his possession.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Shawn Gonsalves informed the court that on the day in question, around 02:00hrs, the police acting on information went to Telford’s address and conducted a search.
He detailed that the marijuana was found in an outside bathroom, to which the accused has access. He said that the cocaine was found inside the house in a container.
Gonsalves also told the court that the accused admitted ownership and possession of the drug. The accused also told the police that he sells the drugs.
The prosecutor successfully opposed bail, after he contended that no special reasons were provided to satisfy the court.
This matter was transferred to Magistrate Ann McLennan for a June 16 hearing.
