– announces future initiatives
The Association of Ex-Presidential Guards and Immigration Services (APGI) of the Guyana Police Force yesterday announced their intended ‘Presidential Programmes’ as they paid tribute to the Late Former President Arthur Chung, as part of an effort to give back to society in honour of Past, Present and Future Presidents. The venue was the Seven Ponds (Place of Heroes) in the Botanical Gardens.
The organisation is overseas-based and is registered in the United States of America. The president is Mr Errol Lewis and Ms Bonita Montague is Secretary of the U.S. arm. The local chapter is headed by Luscious Prescott.
Yesterday’s simple ceremony started off with a prayer, then the National Pledge by Mr Green who also handed over the wreath to Ms Montaque who then laid it upon the tomb of the former late president Arthur Chung.
“This organisation comprises of the ex-presidential guards, immigration officers of the GPF and special forces… We try our best to give back to society in any way possible and that is why we decided to develop this programme in honour of the past, present and future president… This year’s programme is in honour our first president Arthur Chung which entails an empowering literacy programme focusing on youth development” said Ms Montaque.
Mr Lewis also added that, “Every year a different president will be honoured and a programme will be developing in their remembrance at independence time, to pay tribute to the people we once served under… Given that next independence Guyana will be the big 50 how ironic it is that we will be honouring the Late LFS Burnham”.
They vow to make every event bigger and better in the years to come and reiterated that they thrive to empower youth in all aspects.
