DEAR EDITOR,
It seems that even in defeat, those that head the PPP/C continue to do their best Cheddi Jagan impersonation. The difference here, however, is that the Cheddi Jagan-led PPP/C actually lost due to real, evidenced rigging and election manipulation, not fabled hocus pocus.
This Jagdeo and Ramotar-led PPP/C lost because throughout their countless years in office, Guyanese witnessed controversy after controversy, arrogance and pomposity and unjustified favouritism to individuals devoid of any real talent or skill, ill-suited for the positions they held.
Those that head the PPP/C continue to frivolously frolic about in a state of delusional, poppycock, last-stand, straw-clutching. They stand in disarray and the best they can conjure up is to try to further confuse the regular, hard-working Guyanese people with baseless accusations. They are fooling no one but themselves, as Guyanese are no fools and have just proved as much in voting the PPP/C out of power.
Accepting defeat in a gracious manner and not making an utter, sore-loser mockery of yourself in the aftermath is one of the hallmarks of honour and it has become plainly obvious that those that head the PPP/C have little to no interest in being honourable politicians.
Rather than start to get the ball rolling on making the many necessary changes to the PPP/C’s hierarchy, principles and culture, so as to remain a viable option at some point, the PPP/C leaders prefer to gingerly prance about with no true tactic or strategy – just dopes on the ropes.
Just three weeks ago, the PPP/C had the fanciest, most expensive signs and billboards – now they are left with legal printing paper and misspelled words that utter nothing but mere tomfoolery. Oh my, how the mighty have fallen!
The PPP/C’s leaders need to wake up from their slumber and smell the molasses and hibiscus. And truthfully, look at their pathetic protests – a handful of now unemployed former government officials. Where are the masses of PPP/C supporters that marched in protest alongside Cheddi and Janet Jagan?
I implore the “leaders” of the PPP/C to desist from their petty and bitter antics. You have been judged by the Guyanese people as inappropriate to continue the administration of Guyana’s governance and you must heed their decision. Your continued frolics will only bring further disrepute and dishonour to the great legacy your founding father Cheddi Jagan bestowed onto the PPP/C.
It is time to rebuild the PPP/C and return to the infinitely wise humanitarian principles and practices of Cheddi and Janet Jagan – the Jagdeoian and Ramotarian era has passed and will forever be frowned upon with disdain in Guyana’s political history.
I equally implore the dedicated and committed PPP/C supporters to disregard and pay no attention to the unjustified bases upon which the PPP/C’s leaders premise their charade-laden protests. Pay them no mind, ignore their words and do not even give them the time of day.
It is up to you now loyal supporters. The PPP/C leaders will not simply give up control of the PPP/C – it is up to you to drive them out and cause them to fade to black, such that they are no longer politically relevant. They cannot continue to lead a party that no longer has any supporters receptive to their shenanigans. It is time for them to go and it falls squarely upon your shoulders.
The regular, hardworking PPP/C loyalists now have a real opportunity to reinvent and restructure the PPP/C according to their true desires, needs and wishes. It is your time – seize it!
Cheddi B. Jagan II, Esq.
