Mocha defeated Agricola by 10 runs to win the final of the Department of Youth
(DOY) Independence tape ball tournament held recently at Guyana National Service ground. Batting first, Mocha posted a respectable 95-2 off their allotted 10 overs. Jason Sampson struck 31 and Alwin De Mattos 26 not out. Agricola responded with 85-8 in 10 overs.
Tuen Hicks scored 25, Sheldon Chapman 15 and Marlon Darell 10. Sampson returned to take four wickets while De Mattos had two. Agricola overcame Plaisance by nine wickets in the lone semi final game. Plaisance scored 31-4 taking first knock while Agricola replied with 32-1.
Plaisance won the seven-a-side football and the basketball competitions; Mocha placed second and Agricola third in the football while Agricola took the runner up spot and Mocha third in the basket ball.
At the presentation ceremony Director of Youth Julian Frank congratulated the winners and thanked the other participating teams.
