– promoted to Div. 1
The Guyanese combination of Vice Captain Anthony ‘Natural Black’ Benfield, Andrew
Murray, Richie Richards (goalkeeper), Ryan Seales, Quincy Adams and Kestor Jacobs combined efforts to lead SV Nishan 42 to the Surinamese Football Association second division league champions with a game to spare in the 2014/2015 season.
The win ensures that SV Nishan gains promotion to the division one league as did Robinhood which came second with 43 points. Third was Jong Rambaan which also tallied 43 points.
Having joined the club last October, the presence of the Guyanese impacted in a major way to positively lift the fortunes of the previously low ranked club. Not only did SV Nishan amass a total of 51 points from their 23 matches with 16 wins and one loss, they also boast the record of conceding the least amount of goals (1) whilst scoring the most, 52.
Former National goalkeeper Richie Richards dived away with the Bets Goal Keeper trophy for his eight (8) clean sheets in 20 matches (13 goals against) between the uprights while another former national, forward Andrew Murray, a product of the inaugural Digicel Kick Start Clinics, copped the Highest Goal Scorer trophy for his 19 goals in 20 matches.
Murray enjoyed a fantastic goal scoring season with a combined total of 29 goals from 24 matches. SV Nishan also won the Cup when they had defeated division one league champs Inter Moengotapoe in that final 1-0 compliments of an Andre Murray goal.
The other clubs which participated in the 12-team Division 2 League were Robinhood, Jong Rambaan, Voorwaarts, Deva Boys, Papatam, Caravan, ACoconut, PVV, West United, KD and Boskamp.
