The team of boxers chosen to attend the Pan American boxing championships scheduled for Tijuana Mexico June 4-9 are still facing a challenge to raise adequate funding to make the trip. While some funding has been trickling in, the bulk of the money needed is still to be sourced. It was indicated by Guyana Boxing Association official Terrence Poole that they are facing crunch time and are calling on corporate Guyana and government to assist.
The team scheduled to travel to Mexico include Dennis Thomas (middleweight) of Police, Delon Charles of Forgotten Youth Foundation (FYF) and Jason Phillips (Bantamweight) of Young Achievers, Diwani Lampkin (FYF) and America based super/heavyweight, Quincy Small.
Cuban coach, Francisco Hernandez Roldon will travel with the team as the coach with able assistance from Sebert Blake who will also double as the team manager.
Local boxers are also down to compete in the AMBC Junior tournament in Costa Rica in July and a referee/judge is also down to attend that tournament.
The team is currently encamped under the tutelage of several coaches including Terrence Poole, Roldon, Blake and Wencell Thomas.
