Dear Mr. Editor,
There is a lot of jubilation as it related to the coalition’s victory at the poll’s on May 11. I doubt that anyone realized that the margin of victory was narrow.
There was a distinct possibility that the coalition could have won the popular vote but lost the elections. Hence there is hardly much reason to be over joyous.
I know some may want to argue that a win is a win; but we cannot feel, should not feel, comfortable with such a win. We have much work to do to ensure that the margin is wider.
I am referring to Region Eight. Contemplate the fact that had the PPP had got four more votes at the National elections then it would have been a different story.
The PPP would have got the Regional seat which would have taken their tally to 33 seats. So although we would have won the popular vote, we would have lost the elections.
I would therefore purge our supporters to work harder to win the next election decisively. We have four years to achieve that goal. The fifth year should be spent consolidating our gains.
Despite the above I wish the new government every success and urge every patriotic citizen to throwing their support behind the government. It is for the general good.
Carl Parker
