One of the main pieces in the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) puzzle, Gavin Hope has submitted his resignation letter to the President of the association, Aubrey Hutson. The letter that this newspaper has seen was dated May 22, 2015.
Hope, who is the Events and Sponsorship Manager at Digicel Guyana Inc., and a former national junior sprinter, spearheaded the fund-raising and marketing initiatives of the association since he was elected to the post early in 2013.
Under his watch, the AAG was able to raise funds to ensure that Guyana is properly represented at the CARIFTA and other Games, until this year when no local athlete competed at CARIFTA Games for the first time in the New Millennium.
However, it must be noted that Hope spent a lengthy time overseas in the lead up to the Games, which may have been one of the factors that resulted in the team, which included Cassey George, being unable to represent Guyana the CARIFTA Games.
Below is his resignation letter:
“Dear Mr. Hutson,
It is with regret that I write to resign my position as First Vice-President effective May 31, 2015.
I am so appreciative of the opportunities and confidence entrusted in me while working for the development of athletics and the Athletics Association of Guyana.
I am grateful to have served in such an environment for the last few years. The challenges and successes endured during my active time in the organisation cannot be compared.
At this time, I would like to thank all the members of the central executive and all other persons whom I have worked closely to achieve the successes of the last two years. My small contributions could not have been meaningful without their support and similar commitment.
Once again, I thank you and wish you and all other members of the Athletics Association of Guyana, the best in the execution of your duties.
Best Regards,
Gavin Hope”
