The People’s Progressive Party which has found itself as the main opposition party, having lost the 2015 elections by over some four thousand votes to the APNU/AFC coalition, is continuing to protest.
It is calling for a total recount of the ballots cast on May11, last.
On the Essequibo Coast the protest commenced in front of GECOM’s office, at Bush Lot, Essequibo on Wednesday and continued yesterday.
Among them were former Junior Agriculture Minister, Alli Baksh, former Regional Chairman, Parmanand Persaud, Vice Chairman and Vishnu Samaroo.
The protesteos also called for the resignation of GECOM’s Chairman Dr.Steve Surujbally. According to them, they are not satisfied with the results of the National and Regional elections. They want GECOM to provide the party with copies of the Statements of Poll and tally sheets, they said.
A request was also made for a breakdown of the results to be supplied from all of the polling stations.
