The Four Horsemen promotion group says that they will be forging ahead with plans to host a one day mega horserace meet. This is despite another club releasing a programme for the day.
According to Colin Elcock, it was decided at a meeting held by the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA) in February at the Rising Sun Turf Club, Arima Park West Coast Berbice, that the clubs will return to their traditional dates in hosting meetings.
According to information the Port Mourant Turf Club (PMTC) has a traditional date on August 1st while the Rising Sun Turf Club and the Kennard Memorial Turf Club has traditional race dates for later in the month.
In light of the decisions made at the GHRA meet it was decided to forge ahead with plans for their emancipation meet.
Elcock referred to the agreement that was reached at the February meeting which states – that race clubs will set their own respective dates only notifying GHRA of the intended race date. In the event two Clubs submit the same date, consideration will be given to the Club with the traditional date, moving away from the previous arrangement where the GHRA and the clubs would sit at a meeting at the start of the year and decide on dates for the clubs.
Another decision taken during that meeting was that the current classification system being employed in Guyana, does not accurately integrates horses coming from the United States classification system. The new ratings system will be worked out in conjunction with representatives of horse owners and trainers. The new system being implemented will appear alongside the current classification system on race programmes over a period of time to allow race fans to familiarize themselves with it.
At that meeting it was also agreed that an Interim Management Committee (IMC) headed by Mr. Vic Oudit will be put in place.
The four horsemen promotion, while congratulating the new Government on their accession to office, is encouraging them to make a priority in passing the necessary horseracing legislation which will make the hosting of the activity easier.
The previous government had the document for over two decades and never tabled it in parliament for passage.
