Merely one year ago Black Belt karateka, Maxwell Massiah, embarked on a television
programme dubbed ‘Maximum Sport, Combat and Strength’ with an aim of sensitizing the public of the intricacies of the karate, boxing, martial arts, judo, arm-wrestling, powerlifting, bodybuilding, rugby, and the many other combat disciplines.
Aired on National Communication Network 11 (NCN 11), the programme has gained traction after accommodating most of the administrative bigwigs and top athletes of those disciplines. Now, one year later Mr. Massiah climbs to the zenith when he hosts Guyanese world renowned bodybuilder, Laura Crevalle for a series of activities to commemorate what he considers a sterling achievement.
Consequently, the organizers have planned a seminar for Wednesday June 3 at the National Cultural Centre starting at 18:30hrs. Registration will be held half an hour before the start and entrance fee is $2000.
Ms. Creavalle will not only share her vast wealth of knowledge and expertise but also interact physically with the audience on various forms of beneficial exercise and diet for athletes and competitors and the general public.
Further, there will be karate & self defense demonstrations, a male and female curling competition and other forms of inspiring entertainment, to compliment activities. In an interview with Kaieteur Sport recently, Mr. Massiah explained that his desire to highlight the achievements of local sports personalities was pivotal in his decision to host such a programme.
He feels that hosting the world famed bodybuilder is a realization of those dreams and he envisages many other such moments of highlighting the achievements of other local sports stalwarts.
Mr. Massiah is also an accomplished movie and stage actor, comedian, commercial artist and musician (saxophonist), attributes that has led to the resounding success of the show. He said that Ms. Creavalle will unselfishly share her expertise with local athletes in a seminar to host not only competitors, but the general public. “She will touch on topics pertaining to exercise, nutrition, diet, weight loss/gain and other issues,” revealed Mr. Massiah.
Mr. Massiah, holds a certificate in television production garnered from the University of Guyana Centre for Communication Studies, and is a certified Guyana Boxing Association coach. Additionally, he is a 2nd degree black belt martial artist and has been involved in bodybuilding for over 30 years with an unquenchable passion for sports, health and fitness development.
Maximum Sport, Combat and Strength has hosted quite a few local celebrities including world rated boxer, Clive Atwell, world-renowned karate master Frank Woon-a-Tai and Mr. Universe bodybuilding champion, Hugh Ross among others.
“The program enabled me to share much valued topics and videos that are qualitative and edutaining,” said Massiah.
