Dear Excellency, Mr. David Granger,
I believe that no one party or race can build a prosperous Guyana. It is this notion of working collectively that should spur you and your administration to restore a sense of pride among the citizens of Guyana.
In your swearing-in speech, you reminded the nation that Guyana is the largest and most beautiful country in the Caribbean. As we prepare to celebrate our 49th year of independence and inauguration of our new government, the nations should celebrate this occasion with the hoisting of the largest national flag in the Caribbean in a location of permanent prominence, such as the junction of Carifesta Avenue and Vlissengen Road.
This larger than life symbol of patriotism should be our gift to the nation and the people of Guyana – a public demonstration of the love, respect and pride we feel for our country. Trinidad and Tobago currently has the largest national flag in the Caribbean measuring 50ft x 40ft on a soaring 150-ft flagpole located in Macoya.
Proud of who I am as a Guyanese, and inspired to see Guyana transformed into a nation of unity and success, I implore your Excellency and our Prime Minister elect Mr. Moses Nagamootoo to put our patriotism on display for all the Caribbean and the world to see, and to restore pride in our nation every time a Guyanese sees a 55ft x 45ft Guyana flag mounted on a 150-ft pole flying in the Atlantic breeze.
I am aware that this initiative is not part of the coalition’s 100-day plan, but this is your opportunity and my challenge to you to commence the process of uniting Guyana. Help us to display our pride, passion and patriotism to Guyana.
Kevin Bonnett
