Making it clear that it was the first country to congratulate Guyana on the recently held elections, the Government of Brazil in a statement issued yesterday extended congratulations to “friendly neighbouring Guyana on the occasion of the General and Regional Elections, which took place on May 11, (2015), in which His Excellency Brigadier (Rtd) David Arthur Granger was elected President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.”
The statement pointed out that International observer missions, among which was the one sent by the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), which counted with the participation of two representatives of the Electoral Supreme Tribunal of Brazil, followed the calm progress of the electoral process.
“The Brazilian Government extends to President Granger its warmest greetings and confirms the commitment to continue deepening the bilateral initiatives, and the partnership established within the regional context with Guyana, member country of UNASUR and of the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (ACTO) and Associate State of MERCOSUR.”
