There is a line in political competition that you do not cross. I cuss you down, you cuss me down; my friends get into the act, your friends get into the act; political battles go on, but you don’t bring in family.
What does family have to do with men and women battling it out in the arena of politics? If they are not involved, then leave them out; leave innocent family members out of the tit-for-tat. The PPP did not do that. They went after my wife and daughter. This I cannot forgive. This I cannot forget.
My wife has been a public sector worker all her life. She is a trained chemical engineer. After we came back from studies abroad in 1984, she worked at a state body that facilitated investors – GUYMIDA. After the PPP came to power in 1992, GUYMIDA became GO-Invest. My wife worked at GO-Invest for fourteen years. Just before the 2011 election she was pushed out by Bharrat Jagdeo and Donald Ramotar.
My wife has never dabbled in politics. She didn’t while she was at GO-Invest. She doesn’t up to this day. I never knew what my wife did at GO-Invest. I was not interested. She didn’t discuss her work with me. We were always busy with our individual professional interests.
At GO-Invest, my wife had a professional relation with both Jagdeo and Ramotar. At GuyExpo, she would meet them and they would talk. My wife had no idea that these people were planning to victimize her. It was her boss, a decent man, Geoff Da Silva who protected her. When he left to become the Ambassador to Venezuela, my wife became an open target.
Anyone who knows my wife would tell you, she is a decent human being, an introvert who stays away from the world and its controversies. She lost her pension at GO-Invest when CLICO collapsed.
The PPP scandalized my little daughter. They posted photographs of her having a lesbian affair on the internet. It was a nasty fiction. This young lady got vilified because of her father by a ruling cabal that had gone mad. My daughter never uttered a word about politics. None, not one of the PPP big-wigs ever called me to apologize over what the PPP did to my daughter.
I taught Donald Ramotar and his daughter; Anil Nandlall and his wife; Priya Manickchand; Clinton Urling, the daughter of Indra Chandarpal and others inside the castle of the PPP too numerous to mention. Not to mention their relatives too. Not one of them ever emailed me or telephoned me to apologize over the shocking derogation of my daughter. Mind you, it was my family that these people were hurting. They brought my family into their insane conspiracies.
They have gone from office, ignominiously thrown out by the power and passion of the Guyanese people. Before this Sunday is over, I will get calls from some of them telling me they didn’t know about the trials and tribulations of my family. From Monday, I will get discreet apologies from some of them. But these people would be hypocritically lying.
I wrote about the victimization of my wife and the nasty things done to my daughter several times in my columns. Guyanese know. The little dictators know. The PPP crossed the line when they attacked my innocent family. I repeat; this I cannot forgive, this I cannot forget. I don’t want these people to apologize to me. They had a long time to do so, they did not. I don’t want any contact with them. I don’t want them to talk to me.
The desire that comes from the bosom of my heart is for an investigation into the tyranny of fifteen years under Messrs Bharrat Jagdeo and Donald Ramotar. Make no mistake; it wasn’t Freddie Kissoon and his family alone that were hunted down by these people. Thousands were victimized; their families suffering in the process.
The new government has a moral obligation to so many of us that have suffered so horrendously to investigate the horrible victimization of this nation by the Jagdeo/Ramotar cabal. Women were molested. Men were oppressed. Families were torn apart. A nation was ruined. The new government cannot equate the search for justice with vendetta. The two are not even distantly related.
There isn’t a citizen in this country that would support a vendetta against the PPP. David Granger and Moses Nagamootoo would not accept that. But David Granger and Moses Nagamootoo are leaders who must know that justice is a sacred value that people cherish and will always desire to have. The new government must give it to me and my fellow Guyanese.
